April 8, 2008
Hello Quilters,
Spring is in the air and the robins have taken up residence in an attic vent. We can hear them early every morning, busy building their nest and giving interlopers a talking down for trying to move in.
Picket Fence Fabrics is also busy preparing a new “nest”. We will be moving to 71 King Street West, at the corner of St. Andrew Street, opening at the new location on May 5.
The hours this month (April) have been reduced to Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10 – 4 so that we can prepare the new location, and pack and move the shop. A number of show commitments on weekends will hamper our progress a little but with the help of great friends we will be able to welcome you on May 5. An Grand Opening Sale is being planned for mid June.
Hours at the new location will be Monday to Saturday 9 – 5.
We have some early additions to our fabric and product selection. YLI thread, Silk ribbon and yarns and some bright funky prints for summer have already arrived. We will have a great selection of 30’s prints and reproduction fabrics. A Block of the Month is planned for fall, using these lovely traditional fabrics.
We will continue to carry lots of bright fabrics; batiks, B’n W’s and contemporary prints and of course art quilt supplies. Knitting and other needle arts supplies are also on on the list.
Dyeing Workshops This Summer
Many of you have been asking about the dyeing workshop we held here two years ago. Details are being finalized for a series of workshops (four Saturdays this summer) You can choose one or all four workshops and go home with some wonderful hand-dyed cottons or silks to add to your stash. Send us an email if you would like to receive additional information about this series of workshop.
Manhattan Bus Trip in November
Although our thoughts are on the promise of spring, planning is well underway for a trip in November to New York City. A bus trip to Manhattan, geared to quilters, fibre artists and fashion fanatics is being arranged for November 6 – 10, from Ottawa/Brockville. Traveling to the city that never sleeps (really!), we will be arriving just in time for some Christmas shopping and just before the Macy’s Day Parade. Participants will visit the garment district, quilt and wool shops, galleries and fine art museums. A morning tour with a step-on guide will give a brief overview of the city’s tourist sites. You can take in a Broadway show, see the city from the the Top of the Rock or just enjoy the shopping and many restaurants on the ground. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn, and detailed lists of places to visit, inexpensive places to eat, shop and see for each of the daily drop off points will be provided. A $200 deposit is required to reserve your seat. Drop in to the shop to pick up the information brochure and to sign up, or call (888) 498-4874 for more info.
Thank you for your continuing patronage. See you soon.
Jennifer
